LM5121: LM5121-PCB PLACEMENT

Part Number: LM5121

Hi

In my power supply board iam using LM5121 for 5V to 10V boost conversion ,In PCB LM5121 LO and HO outputs are routed to the switching MOSFETs with long traces-150 mm(due to placement issue) is this may cause any issue regarding the switching???????

Fs=450KHz

Kindly provide the feedback

  • Hi Mobin,

    Thank you for considering the LM5121 in you design.

    Your concern is valid and we should try to shorten the gate drive traces. But this is not the always possible owing to the PCB limitations. To prevent problem, the HO and SW traces should be routed closely side by side over the entire lenghth from the IC to the high side FET. So should the pair of the LO and ground traces. If there is uninterrupted copper plane between the low side FET and IC, the ground trace can be saved, because the gate drive current will take a route back to the IC in the shadow of the LO trace along the ground plane.

    Hope this clarifies.

    Thanks,
