TPS92691: TPS92691

Part Number: TPS92691

hi ,

i have chosen this part for 100W solar street light application

my input voltage is 16VDC TO 22VDC , and out put led configuration is 40VDC to 50VDC ,Iout=2A ,

is it support for street light application . its a battery operated project please give me some suggestions.

  • Hi Rudra,

The TPS92691 is capable of doing what you need.  If the output is alway higher than the input then a boost topology is the best for this application.  There are sample designs and design equations in the data sheet to help you with this.  We also have the PSpice or TINA model for this http://www.ti.com/product/TPS92691/toolssoftware

For your 100W application, I would recommend Fswitch of about 100KHz-250KHz since the switching FET that you would use will have large gate charge and you want to minimize switching loss since the output power is high.

    Thanks Tuan

  • thanks for your reply tuan,

some times the LED driver inductor (15uH SMD type)make humming bird noise is their any solution for this, and also how to manage the inductor temperature.

  • Hi Rudra,

What is the current on the LED looks like?  It would be good to look at that to verify that it's well controlled.  I assume that you are not doing any dimming with PWM'ng is that correct?  The other thing to verify the current on the inductor is stable and not saturated.  For high power output you have to size the inductor correctly to handle the current and with low series resistance to limit power loss.

For 100W output and even with 90% efficiency you will get 10W that you have to remove from your board so thermal is a big part of the design.

    Thanks Tuan
