TPS2384: TPS2384x EV2400 gui "TPS2348 EVM"

Part Number: TPS2384
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , EV2400, TPS23861, TPS23880, TPS2388

Hi,

i have a board with TPS2384 and a board with TPS23841 and want to access by gui "TPS2384 EVM" slvc078a.

I2C working is checked succesfully with bus-pirate, the device acknowledge the adress check.

The gui needs an EV2300. I bought the successor EV2400 because it is the working with Win7.

EV2400 (Firmware 0.18) is plugged in USB and all green LEDs are on, the powered target is connected at I2C Port2.

The EV2400 is detected as HID with HardwareID: HID\VID_0451&PID_0037&REV_0012 .

But there is still no data connection between running gui and the target.

"bq80xRW.ocx missed" in gui after installed sluc291.

What driver i need? Is the EV2400 working with gui "TPS2384 EVM"? Thank you in advance.

  • Hello Miko92.

Our PSE Application Engineer, Penny Xu, is on her way back from a business trip. She will look into this tomorrow and advise.

With that said, may I ask why you have selected the TPS2384? This is our oldest generation PSE controller with the lowest level of support (technical, reference designs, software, etc.) and a high price. Some of our newer controllers might be of interest to you - like the TPS23861, TPS2388, and (sampling , soon to be released) TPS23880.

Just thought I would mention those to you while waiting for Penny to advise (best she can) on this older solution.

Thank you for your interest in PoE products from Texas Instruments,
  • Hi Miko,

Yes. EV2400 should work with TPS2384GUI. This is very old GUI and I never had luck with getting this GUI work on my laptop. I can only run the GUI in my lab PC. You probably can try with a different PC or laptop.
I am curious to know what your are doing with TPS2384. We have TPS23861(AT 4 channel), TPS2388(AT 8 channel), TPS23880(BT 8 channel) which are more recently release PSE devices with full support on HW and SW. Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Penny
  • Hello Penny, hello Thomas.

Thank you for the reply. I found this device pretty for my project, because:

    - need powering and monitoring for our Class0-PD in development

    - if system approved, maximum 40 devices needed for monitoring production, it is not for own product

    - low component count schematic, integrated FETs, 2-layer pcb, start with manual assembly, systems costs are not high

    - footprint compatible TPS23841 with 21,5V support (for testing our device outer spec)

    - an "Active" device, with a gui for fast start and success :-)

There is no warning about the age of this device and the gui, status "NRND" would be an usefull indicator for an old device with limited support. We will give an other computer one try.

    Best Regards

    Miko
