TPS65910: TPS65910 MAX current limit specification

Part Number: TPS65910

Hello,

VIO, VDD1 and VDD2 of TPS65910 don't have maximum current limit specification. It's only minimum current limit.

Do you have any maximum current limit data?

EVM of AM33x + TPS65910 is setting three time current limit of related operation current. Does TPS65910 need it?

Best Rgards.,

Mitsuharu Iwasaki

  • Mitsuharu-san,
My understanding is the max current information is based on the PMOS and NMOS max ratings in the data sheet. Since I can't confirm this, I have passed your question to the Product Specialist.
  • Iwasaki-san,

It is common to spec current limits as Minimum values.

This means that TI guarantees all TPS65910 devices will operate correctly up to the minimum value. Some devices will operate beyond this value, but the load current should not exceed the NMOS or PMOS current limit Min value for extended periods of time.

For VIO, when ILMAX[1:0] = 00, none of the devices tested will shut off the FET when ILOAD < 650mA. When ILOAD > 650mA, some of the devices will go into over-current protection mode. This usually means the FET will shut off for one or more cycles to protect itself. If the load is reduced, the output will stay in regulation and turn back on without fully turning off. The maximum current limit is not tested, but the FETs are sized such that even the maximum current limit allowed by the worst-case device will not damage the TPS65910 internally.
