LM5050-2: Choosing correct part

Hello,

I wanted to know if I can use LM5050-2 as a transfer switch in an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). We're using a 120VAC corrected to 12VDC as primary, and we're using a 12VDC car battery as the backup.

Hello Carolina,

LM5050-2 can be used in to OR the 12V rails.

Are you looking for ORing two power rails, namely 12VDC primary and 12VDC car battery backup?

Let me know if you are looking for power switch, to turn off the power path or a power mux configuration?

Yes, we're ORing 12VDC primary and a 12VDC battery backup. I believe for our application, a power mux configuration would work best.

Hello Carolina,

LM5050-2 can not work as power mux (supporting back-back MOSFET, two MOSFETs).

Please have a look at TPS2121 for power muxing with priority upto 4.5A. This has integrated MOSFET and saves space and cost.

If your application requires more than 4.5A, then need to go for external MOSFETs with TPS241x series.
