BQ25703A: charging current inaccuracy with low currents

Part Number: BQ25703A

Hi,

BQ25703A is not reporting stable charging current value when operating with low current. Issue rises up when BQ25703A operates in PFM-mode. With PWM-mode accuracy is on good level. According to my understanding charging current may oscillate due to PFM-mode and therefore the value in ADCIBAT is not reliable. Is this correct?

Is there something which can be done to improve accuracy with low currents?

Rgds,

Juha

  • Juha,

The pulsing inductor current as shown on the Figure 52 in PFM mode will have high ripple percentage vs. the average DC current compared to the PWM operation mode. The current reading depends on the sample point on the ripple current.
One way to improve the accuracy is to take multiple readings and average the values.
