TPS24741: When does the in-rush timer start?

Part Number: TPS24741

Hello,

I have a customer that is using the TPS24741 on a power supply. They are having an issue where the supply trips when the unit is first turned on due to what they believe is an inrush condition.  I know the inrush timing can be adjusted based on the external cap on the TINR pin but we wanted to clarify exactly when the timer starts.

My understanding from the datasheet is that the inrush timer starts when the IMON pin voltage rises above the threshold (typically 90mV). Is that correct? This is after the UVLO threshold has been crossed and the ORing FET and HS FET has been enabled.

Thanks in advance!

John

  • Hi John,

Yes, you are correct. Inrush timer should start when the IMON pin voltage rises above the threshold (typically 90mV).
Any issue at the customer end? can you share test waveform along with test conditions.

    Best Regards,
    Rakesh
  • Hi Rakesh,

Thanks for the quick help. I just followed up with the customer stated that this was the correct operation of the device and asked them to share some oscope waveforms of the start up if they are still having issues. I will "ask a related question" if I need additional help.

    Thanks,

    John
