BQ27441-G1: Power Management

Part Number: BQ27441-G1

Hi,

I am a new electronic engineer and trying to pick up some design done by the previous engineer.

Is the BQ27441DRZT-G1A capable to monitor more than 1 Single Series Cell Li-Ion Battery?

I have read the datasheet and it said  "Single Series Cell Li-Ion Battery Fuel Gauge" under feature in the 1st page.

I just wonder if I connect 2 or 3 Li-Ion batteries in parallel (please see the schematic below), is the bq27441-G1 still see them as Single Series Cell?

And instead of Li-Ion, can we use Li-Po battery?

Thanks for your help!

Best Regard,

Chris

  • Yes having batteries in parallel still regards them as a single series cell. You will have to make sure you set your Design Capacity parameter to
3 x Design Capacity for each cell.
  • Thank you for your reply.

Just want to clearify my question, I have two sets of battery connected in parallel with the bq27441.

They are both in 3.7V but different capacity, one is 2600mAh and the other is 800mAh.

In this case, would the battery still consider as parallel?

The other question is, can I use Li-Po instead of Li-Ion for the battery?
  • Yes they are still in parallel although I'd be cautious about having batteries of different capacities as they get charged and discharged at different rates and this can overall have an adverse affect on gauging since the internal resistance of each cell don't match up anymore.

And yes, you can use Li-Po instead of Li-Ion.
