TPS51206: Power up sequence

Part Number: TPS51206

Hi Team,

My customer is evaluating TPS51206 and they face the issue that the TPS51206 sometime becomes stuck in S3 mode under the following power up sequence.

1) Apply 1.2V to VDDQSNS & VLDOIN
2) Apply 3.3V to VDD & S5 (S3 input is Hi-Z situation)
3) Set S3 to High

Do you understand the reason why the TPS51206 sometime becomes stuck in S3 mode under the above power up sequence?
Are there any sequence issues between VDD and S5 (High)?

They understand that the above power up sequence does not follow the Figure 23. Typical Timing Diagram of TPS51206 datasheet.
But they want to understand the reason, mechanism, why the TPS51206 becomes stuck in S3 mode.
Thank you.

  • Hi Koshi,

During startup and normal operation, VTT follows VTTREF.

Typically we should pull S3 high to turn on VTTREF first, such that VTT can follow VTTREF.

The part was not designed to turn on VTT (S5 is high) but VTTREF is still off.

    Thanks
