BQ34Z100-G1: Set Max Charge Time

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1

We have a desire to stop the device from charging after a certain amount of time. Is there any maximum charge time setting on this gauge that will do that? If not, is there any function that we could use in our MCU code that would do this for us, such as a stop charging function?

  • Hi Eric,

This bq34z100-g1 gauge does not control charging directly - the decision to stop charging is made by the host MCU or a battery charger. The bq34z100-g1 reports on the SOC, current, voltage, etc... of the battery. The timer could be implemented on the host MCU or on a separate charger IC.

The _ALERT_ pin may be used to set an alert upon a condition being set, such as full charge (FC) being detected. The host MCU may then interrogate the bq34z100-g1 to see what condition caused the alert pin to toggle.

The host MCU may also be used to interrogate the bq34z100-g1 irrespective of the state of _ALERT_.

For more information on the _ALERT_ pin and its settings, please refer to section 7.3.14 of the device datasheet, found here: www.ti.com/.../bq34z100-g1.pdf

    Sincerely,
    Bryan Kahler
