BQ25703A: BQ25703A Battery Charging Issue

Part Number: BQ25703A

Dear Support Team,

We are using BQ25703A battery charger in our design. We are facing issue that when we enable the charging from the register settings then after some time the charge register bit 03/02h (Charge current) changes to 0. Due to this the battery charging current goes to 0.

Attached is the schematic for the same. We are using the 3-cell li-ion battery in our design. Let us know your comments or tell us the software settings we need to do for our design.

Your immediate response of this would be highly appreciated.

Regards,

Khemraj

  • Khemraj,

Can you measure system voltage, charge current and input voltage waveforms when charger is stop?

I would like to check is there any strange pulse appeared when charger is stop.

Can you make sure there is no any I2C command to disable charger? Or maybe you can try to disconnect I2C interface after you program BQ25703A to 100% make sure no interference from host. BTW, please also disable watchdog timer too.

    Thanks

  • Hello Paul,

Thank you very much for your response. We have tried by disabling the watchdog time and then are able to charge the battery. However, we are facing the another issue with the battery charger as shown below:
    1. When we do not connect the battery and then connect the adapter on the input supply, we get the flicker on our display when the system boots us. The battery charger is not able to deliver more then 600mA of current.
2, Our system needs the minimum 2A current during the boot condition. Can you please let us know is there any output current register which we need to program for this battery charger. We are connecting a 12V@3A wall adapter to power our system.

    Regards,
    Khemraj
  • Hello Paul,

Can you please update us on the query?

    Looking for your immediate response.

  • Khemraj,

Sorry for later response. Below is my idea for your problem with no battery condition.

    1. What is your ILIM_HIZ pin setting, can you set input current limit to 3A at least? in case it limits your system output.

    2. what is your system loading status when adaptor plug in?

    3. Can you also measure system voltage/current versus input voltage waveforms to check what kind of event to cause your problem?

    Thanks

  • Khemraj,

We haven’t heard back from you. We are assuming you were able to resolve your issue. If not, just post a reply below or create a new thread if the thread has locked due to time-out.
