TPS23880: TPS23880 EVM GUI is not controlling anything physical

Part Number: TPS23880

Hi!

I'm using the TPS23880EVM to learn more about this .3bt compliant chip.

I installed the EVM software, updated the USB2anything firmware, and everything connects okay ..as per the online instructions. But, when I connect any load devices to any ports, and click "enable port" on the GUI, nothing happens (in standard mode, auto mode, any mode). It's almost like the GUI is not actually controlling anything. The GUI buttons light up, but nothing happens. Did I miss something obvious? Any help to get this working is appreciated.

Thanks,

-Paul

  • Hi Paul,

Can you send me the top marking of TPS23880 chip and can you try the latest GUI from ti.com? On the daughter card, did you have all jumpers on J4 installed? Can you also send me a screenshot of the GUI to me? Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Penny
  • Hi Penny,

    Sure, see attached screenshot..

Yes all jumpers on J4 (for setting I2C address) are installed.

And the top marking on the TPS23880 chip is: TI 79F SD9Q G4

Also I don't think the I2C is working between EVM and the USB2anything, because I'm measuring 50V with my meter, and it initially says 50V, but it changed to 30V earlier. Now it's back to 50V after cycling power on/off. But it doesn't seem to execute any commands (like enable/disable ports) when I press buttons on the GUI.

    Thanks for your help,

    -Paul

  • Hi Paul,

The IC on the EVM is the old silicon revision and the new SRAM code embedded in the GUI doesn't work with the old silicon. We replaced the EVMs with new ICs in June. I suggest you either request TPS23880 samples(It was RTM'd last week) or order a new TPS23880EVM-008 daughter card from TI store. Thanks.

    Best regards,
    Penny
  • Hi Penny,

Okay, so the chip will not work with the GUI.. good to know I'm not losing my mind here.

Thanks for your help and quick responses to resolve this,

    -Paul
