CSD16321Q5: Vth with actual current

Part Number: CSD16321Q5
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS40007, CSD16340Q3

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering CSD16321Q5 instead of Si4866BD and has a question.

I would be grateful if you could advise.

---

I'd like to change to CSD16321Q5 for TPS40007.

Vin:3.3V, Vout:1.2V 3.2A

Due to the specification of the controller of 3.3 V -> 1.2 V, the worst case of Vgs becomes about 2.6 V.

At this time, I think that FET may not turn ON due to variations.

Is there data that CSD16321Q5 surely turns ON under this use condition?

For example, it is helpful to have data on the maximum value of Ron at Vgs = 2.5 V.

---

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Shinichi san,
    Thanks for the question.
The lowest gate drive voltage we can guarantee a resistance for the CSD16321Q5 is 3Vgs. If you drive the gate @ 2.6Vgs then the resistance will vary greatly with small shifts in threshold. I do not recommended using the CSD16321Q5 for this application.
A smaller, more cost effective device and one rated with resistance @ 2.5Vgs is the CSD16340Q3. The resistance is a little higher vs the Vishay device but the gate charges are much smaller. The CSD16340Q3 will easily handle the 3.2A you gave in your circuit conditions and will have much lower switching losses and reduce space as the CSD16340Q3 is a SON3x3 vs the Vishay 5x6 device.
I would recommend the CSD16340Q3 for this application.
  • Hi Chris,

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand CSD16321Q5 is not recommended in customer's application because Vgs minimum is 3V.

I'll share your suggested CSD16340Q3 with the customer.

    I appreciate your great help.

If he has an additional question, I cousult you.

    Best regards,

    Shinichi
