LM4040: NC pins

Part Number: LM4040

Hello

On the LM4040C30IDCKR there are two questions from our customer

1. The LM4040C30IDCKR data sheet section 10 recommends a 0.1uF ceramic bypass capacitor.  Figures 2 and 3 show Dynamic Output Impedance with 1uF tantalum capacitors.  Which do you recommend?

2 Do you have any recommendations on attaching or not attaching the LM4040C30IDCKR's NC pads to the Anode or Cathode or mix-and-match?

 Thanks

Faizul Bacchus

  • Hi Faizul,

    1. More than likely the datasheet figure 1/2 and section 10 where created at different times. We typically always recommend a ceramic bypass capacitor due to its noise filtering capabilities at high frequencies.
If figure 2 and 3 where changed to ceramic the main difference would be that the output impedance at high frequencies (100k Hz+) would be lower.
    I would recommend ceramic caps.

    2. I would leave the NC pins floating if there is no reason to connect them to the anode or cathode. The NC pins are not connected to anything internally on the SC-70 package so they will not affect the performance of the device.
