TPS53318: VREG Using for External Sourcing

Hi,

We could see the VREG as 5V output with 30mA sourcing capable. This is driving the internal driver circuit.

We are planning to use this to load another IC (CP2102N) having 10mA current consumption.

Can we use this?Would this be recommended?

Hi Felix,

This can be done in general, but can you please share the switching frequency the TPS53318 will be operating at in your application. Then I can give you a more certain answer for your specific application to make sure that the current drawn from VREG will be low enough.

Hi Alec,

The switching frequency is 500KHz.
To realise this, we kept the RF Pin Open - No resistor connected on this pin.

Hi Felix,

You can use VREG as a power supply for the other IC with a switching frequency of 500kHz, and a max current draw of 10mA.

The reason I checked, is that VREG is also used to control the gate driver for this part. With a switching frequency of 500kHz there should only be around 10mA of current drawn. The analog circuitry draws in the micro amps so this should give you plenty of margin for your application.
