BQ24610: Can I use 24V adaptor to charge 1-Cell 3.7V battery

Part Number: BQ24610
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25606

Hi,

There are 2 different input voltage that this device should work that is 12V and 24V.

Now my concern is can I use 24V adaptor directly to charge the 1-cell 3.7V battery, Please suggest?

Is there any thing that need to taken care, because I am using only single cell battery.

Also is there any battery charger IC that will provide regulated power path output, when connected to the external DC input, the IC should have wide input range and should at least support 5V, 3A current to the load.

Please suggest ASAP since I am running out of schedule.

Regards,

Karthik

  • Karthik,

It should be ok to use 24V adaptor directly to charge 1-cell 3.7V battery with the BQ24610.

    Thanks,

    Ning.

  • Hi,

Will this IC charge the 3.7V at battery 2A charge current ? Because in the datasheet 9.3.14 Input under voltage Lockout its specified that the VCC pin is powered by adapter or battery via the conduction path that present from Battery to VCC through High Side NMOS FET body diode.

But if VCC is less than UVLO threshold(i.e; 3.85V from datasheet ) the IC will be disabled ,So I had this doubt whether this IC will operate and whether it can charge the 3.7V battery or not because the threshold itself is 3.85V ?

Also Please suggest whether I can Use 5V adapter to charge the battery with max Charge voltage of 4.2V?

    PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR REPLY ASAP

    Regards,
    Karthik
  • Karthik,

The charging of battery should not be a concern when the adaptor is present, but you are right that the the discharge with batter is a concern. You can check check BQ25606 if you want to use 5V to charge 4.2V battery.
