BQ24296M: PSEL

Part Number: BQ24296M
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24295,

Hi Team,

Our customer want to use BQ24296M to replace BQ24295, But layout can't modify at all.

I need to confirm the Pin2 (PSEL) and Pin3(PG') can floating or not.

Have any risk if I float the pin2 and pin3?

Thanks!

  • Hello Julian,

The PG pin can be left floating if not being used by the host or to indicate power good to the user in the application.

PSEL is used to determine the input current limit upon adapter insertion, 500mA if PSEL is HIGH vs 3A if PSEL if LOW. If left floating, the device cannot guarantee which input current limit it will default at POR (500mA v. 3A). The host can always reinitialize the input current limit over I2C after POR, but you would run the risk of not being able to power up if the there's a load at the system and the initial input current limit is too low to support it.
