Hi all,

My bare die distributor tells me that the following flavors of LM117 are available:

LM117H-MD8

LM117H-MDE

LM117H-MDR

LM117HVH-MDE

LM117HVH-MDR

LM117HVKG-MD8

LM117KG-MD8

 I understand that "H" is for 0.5 A, "K" is for 1.5 A, and "G" is for gold on the back side that's tied to Vout.

Now, can anyone please help with "HV", "MD8", "MDE", and "MDR"?  I'm not seeing those in the LM117QML data sheet.

    Hello Chris,

    That is correct that H is for 500 mA current limit and K is 1.5 A current limit.

    The G is for gold but parts without the G might also get goldback.   In this case all mil and space versions of the LM117 have goldback (all those on your list).

    MD8 = military grade

    MDE = space grade, radiation qualified to 100 krad at low dose rate (10 mrad/s)

    MDR - space grade, radiation qualified to 100 krad at high dose rate (50 to 300 rad/s)

    HV = high voltage with input rated at 60V

    Without the HV, the input is rated to 40V

    As long as we are on the subject, other die options

    MDA and MDC = commercial grade

    MDS = space grade, no radiation qualification

    The products that TI acquired from National Semiconductor follow this naming format.   Other TI die products have different formats.
