BQ34Z100: Fimware of BQ34Z100-G1 usable with BQ34Z100

Part Number: BQ34Z100
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , BQSTUDIO

Team,

my customer needs to know if they can use firmware that was written for BQ34Z100-G1 on the non-G1 parts (BQ34Z100).

I am aware that BQ34Z100 is NRND.

Thanks!

  • Yes, you can upgrade the bq34z100 ICs simply by programming the bq34z100-G1 .srec file.
  • Thanks!

My customer has issues and they think it's related to G1 version vs non-G1 version.
They can read from the device, but they cannot write the golden image to the non-G1 devices.

Do you have any idea if this could be related to the difference of G1 vs non-G1?
  • What file are they trying to write?

You cannot program a bq34z100 .dfi file to a bq34z100-G1 IC.

But if you program a .srec file it is no problem to go back and forth.

  • Hi dMax,

what exactly is meant by „Yes, you can upgrade the bq34z100 ICs simply by programming the bq34z100-G1 .srec file.”?

By programming the „bq34z100-G1 .srec file“ to the BQ34Z100, do we get exactly the same functionality as in the BQ34Z100-G1?
As far as I know, there are different registers in the two devices.

    BR
  • Hi Franziskus,
    I apologize for the confusion.
The IC hardware is identical between bq34z100 and bq34z100-G1. Only the firmware is different, but as you mention it is true that the features and registers are different between the two devices.
If you have a bq34z100 IC, you can obtain the .srec from the firmware bundle in the product folder at this link:
    www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware
If you use the Programming tab in bqStudio you can reflash a bq34z100 IC or EVM to look just like a factory-fresh bq34z100-G1 IC.
