UCC2897A: Reference design for 5V/5~6A forward topology PD

Hi TI,

This is a request from customer:

PoE PD - Forward topology, output 5V, 5~6A. Because they use UCC2897A for many projects, so won't change to other solution.

Here are the question:

1. Is there any reference design for the request?

2. Or any reference design of other parts could be leveraged, transformer especially.

3. Could leverage the schematic of PMP5818 for UCC2897A? (the spec of Transformer is for 4.8A)

The response from the designer is as follows.

It should work ok at 5A. Since they want to use the UCC2897A, PMP20960 is also an option, the board has not been tested yet, but it is mostly a copy of PMP5818, with a few changes to accommodate the UCC2897A and the xfmr redesigned for 7A. If they don’t want to use the custom 7A xfmr and only need 5A there are catalog xfmrs from Coilcraft, Pulse and Wurth that could be used. The xfmr from PMP5818 is should work and is now a catalog part from Coilcraft.

Thanks for your help, looks like PMP20960 is a good solution for our customer. But I can find PMP20960 in TI.com, could you help on this?

PMP20960 is still in development and will not be released for some time. I am not part of the design team so I have no visibility on the schedule.
