Dear Sir/Ms.

My customer want to design a BQ76930 but they have some questions.

1. Can the BQ76930' current detection part be measured at high side? Did BQ76930 support high side sense?
2. Does the BQ76930 achieve Pre-Discharging Solution without using GATE DRIVE IC (BQ76200)?
3. If you really need GATE DRIVE IC to achieve Pre-Discharging function, then can the BQ76200 be placed on the low voltage side? Is there any other solution? Because my customer must have MOSFET and current detection The parts are placed on the same side so that I can reduce one of the lock terminals.

    Hi Kami,
    1. The bq76930 current detection is low side. An interface circuit might be built but care must be taken not to introduce errors.
    2. The bq76930 does not directly support a pre-discharge. A pre-discharge can be supported from a MCU without the bq76200. For a low side switch the MCU can turn on a current limited N-ch path (N-ch signal FET with resistor in the drain in parallel with the discharge FET. For high side switch the MCU can turn on a N-ch control FET to enable a high side P-ch similar to figure 7-2, but with the output to the PACK terminal. When the MCU controls the FETs note that that path will not be directly controlled by the protection switch of the bq76930.
    3. The bq76200 is not required, it will not work on the low side. When switching on the low side the voltages for FETs are available within the range of the battery voltage. Conventional FET drivers may be used if the bq76930 output is not suitable.
