EV2300: not working any more

Part Number: EV2300

Hi,
I have a trouble with EV2300 tool, which I'm using with BQ40z50-r2 IC.

Previously it was working fine on two PCs - one with Windows10, 64-bit version and Windows 7 32-bit. Month ago it stopped working wit 64-bit version - don't know the reason, probably some Windows driver update.

Now same sh*t happened with 32-bit version and I can not work with BQ40z50 using EV2300 any more (FYI: in notification bar I've noticed some pop-up "TI Firmware updater" at some moment...). Any suggestions what to do in this situation? - It's sad to see that tool for 200$ doesn't provide good user experience...

And it's sad, that R&D process of BQ40z50 stopped in the middle of nowhere :(

  • Hi,

I'm really sorry to hear about this issue. It could be a driver issue, but if the EV2300 stopped working suddenly, it is possible something has been damaged. Here are some things you can try:

The 32-bit drivers are in the EV2300 product folder. Here is the direct link: http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slec003

    • If the EV2300 is connected, wait until the system prompt New Hardware Found appears. Choose Select Location Manually, and use the Browse button to point to the TIUSBWin2K-XP-1 subdirectory.

    • Click Continue to the warning that drivers are not certified with Microsoft.
    • If the EV2300 is connected, after the previous installation finishes, another system prompt New Hardware Found appears. Repeat above steps, but specify the directory as TIUSBWin2K-XP-2.
    • Click Continue to the warning that drivers are not certified with Microsoft. Driver installation is now
      finished.

    For 64-bit drivers: https://e2e.ti.com/support/power_management/f/196/p/733896/2710098#2710098

If you are not able to recover the EV2300 (device has failed electrically), we recommend replacing it with an EV2400 since the EV2300 will soon no longer be available. Hopefully, this is only a driver issue.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Guy,
Unfortunately the EV2300 was created long before 64-bit Windows and we have tried our best to keep it working as long as possible for as many people as possible. For most cases it does work, but there have been a few where we were not able to debug exactly what broke the drivers, as in your case.
The officially supported box for 64-bit Windows is EV2400 and we are working on updating our documentation to point to it wherever possible.
  • Hi,
Ok, we'll consider EV2300 as obsolete HW. We've ordered EV2400. Hope that it will work :)
