BQ2057: Power line configuration

Part Number: BQ2057
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24073, , BQ24100

Hello.

This is my first time designing a circuit with li-ion charger, and am confused about many things.

my first choice to ease the designing was to use an IC such as bq24073 with PPM, so the the battery and the system can be detached.

Having gone through cost issues i may be forced to use linear chargers, such as bq2057.

One thing with them is that having the battery and the system connected in the same path, am i supposed to power the system load with the external output pins of the charger?

or have a circuitry that disconnects the battery when output power is available, let the charger charge, and as the external source is pulled out, let the battery drive the system?

Is it just possible to configure the circuit as shown in the datasheet

if so, then say with the external power supply of 12 volts, is the system load getting a different voltage for different power sources?

One more thing, is the bq2057 safe to use with a 2s li ion without any aditional configuration?

\thank you.
