TPS54560: Inrush capability at output

Hello,

I just need small information on TPS54560 output inrush current capability. What is maximum inrush current that can be handled by TPS54560 for few milli seconds.

As per data sheet, under short circuit, device limits the output current to 6A and reduces output voltages. But i am looking for inrush current capability for few milli seconds. This inrush currents appears every time when load is turning on.

Hello Ganapathi,

The TPS54560 has cycle by cycle current limiting. It will not provide extra current for even a few microseconds. If a load pulse greater than 6 A is applied, output capacitors must provide the extra current. If output voltage sags too much, you can either increase output capacitance or limit inrush of the load while it turns on.

Hello Robert,

Thanks a lot for your quick response. In my application, output inrush current may be between 5A - 6A for ~50 micro seconds. In this case, i suppose , there wont be any output voltage dip/ any issue during that period.

If output surge is less than 6 A, output voltage should not dip.
