BQ24650: BQ24650

Part Number: BQ24650
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25700A, BQ25710

Dear Sir/mam,

I am planning to use BQ24650 Battery Charger IC to charge Li-Ion (18650 4.2V 2000mAh) battery. Looking for the connection in 2S41P or 6S41P format. Can you please suggest me will this work for me. Or do you have any other alternate IC which will help me to achieve the requirement. Other requirements are posted below

1. Vin-6V-18V

2.Vout 7V-24V

3. Charge Current-Max 8A

4. How BQ24650 will recognize No. of cells connected if I use Li-Ion

I have earlier used BQ24650 to charge Lead Acid Battery of 12V/12Ah and it is working fine. Now planning for Li-Ion Battery.

Regards,

PRANESH

  • Pranesh,

The BQ25650 charger is basically a step-down DC-DC (buck) converter. It requires the input voltage to be higher than the output voltage with some headroom for normal operations. Your application requires buck-boost charger such as BQ25700A/703A, BQ25710. Please check.

    Thanks,

    Ning.

  • Dear Ning,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I over looked at BQ24650 (for missing Boost). The suggested IC BQ25700A or BQ25710 looks like will solve my problem.

These two ICs also support Lead-Acid Charging.
