BQ34Z100: BQ34Z100-G1 - Full Charge Capacity - How do I set this properly

Part Number: BQ34Z100
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, , BQ40Z50,

Hello,

This does not really help.

Will you provide a list of step by step instructions for the learning cycle that apply to the BQ34 directly instead of an app note for a different part?

SLUA848 refers to buttons (GAUGE_EN) in BQstudio 1.3.86 and commands that don't seem to be available such as CHG_FET_TOGGLE and DSG_FET_TOGGLE, and for me it just confuses things.

For the BQ34, datasheet SLUUBW5, D.3 discusses learning cycle, but doesn't clearly state how to initiate it.

1.Do I press IT_ENABLE in BQstudio or CAL_ENABLE to start the learning process?  Please detail.  Does it need to be UNSEALED.

2. How do you recommend handling D.4.7.a?  We don't have an automated setup, just bench power supplies.  Is there a charger you can recommend ?

Thanks a lot,

Dave.

  • Hi David,

There is not a specific learning cycle document available today for the BQ34Z100 which is why Bryan referred you to SLU848 previously.
    Regarding your questions:
    1) IT_ENABLE is the correct way to start the learning process in BQStudio.
    2) You can use a bench power supply or a source meter. During rest, be sure to disconnect the supply because some supplies will still have leakage current even when the output is disabled and this will affect the measurement.

There are a couple of newer videos that cover the Impedance Track Learning cycle that I recommend:
training.ti.com/how-perform-successful-learning-cycle-gauges (Goes over learning cycle basics)
training.ti.com/bq40z50-setup-and-going-production (Longer video covering the BQ40Z50, but goes into a lot more detail)

Also, make sure you've selected the correct ChemID first! This is an important first step with an Impedance Track Gauge.

    Best regards,
    Matt
  • Hi David,

The learning cycle instructions for the bq34z100-g1 differ based on chemistry. Which chemistry are you using with the device? Please let me know so I can provide you with instructions.

    1. Enabling IT is part of the learning process. Cal_Enable is used for calibration. The device will need to be unsealed full access.

    2. Please consult the cell manufactuer and your legal team for information on how to ship batteries with respect to D.4.7.a. Bench power supplies may be used, but steps will vary based upon cell chemistry. I would need more information. If looking for a charger to be built into the system, please create a new post so an expert in chargers may be able to assist.

    Sincerely,
    Bryan Kahler
