Hello Sir

Can you explain how to test a four pin mosfet (like part no C3M0065100K) with the help of Digital multimeter ?

In what cases ,the mosfet may get damage or pins get shorted ?

Thanks and regards

Rajashekar

I'm afraid that I cannot answer questions related to another company's product. You should contact Cree support to get a definitive answer to your question.

  • Thanks for reply Colin.

Can you explain me in general that how to test a mosfet whether it got damaged or working properly with the help of Digital multimeter ?

and in which cases that the mosfet may damage or pins get shorted ?

    Thanks and regards

    Rajashekar.

  • Hi Rajashekar

In general - First, short gate to source together - to remove gate charge
Measure resistance Drain to Source and then Source to Drain - you should see O/C in one direction and a Diode in the other.
    O/C the gate
While on resistance range put positive lead of DVM onto the gate and negative onto Source (assuming Nch) - also do not assume that the black lead of the DVM is negative and red is positive !.
This should charge the gate to above its threshold.
Don't touch the gate - yet
Measure drain to source resistance in the 'non diode' direction - the gate charge should partially turn on the MOSFET so the Rds_on will be less than before.
While measuring Rds, connect the gate to the source using your finger (I'm assuming low voltages here of course <10V) and watch Rds increase as the gate charge leaks away.

That's about as much as you can do with a DVM.
