UCC28950: Current on UCC28950

Part Number: UCC28950

I used same schematic which is shown in the datasheet of UCC28950.

I tried DC_DC converter 36V, 24A from 380VDC. working. Everything fine.

Externally I have given +12VDC to UCC28950.

It is drawing 480mA current on +12VDC in output no-load condition 

My doubt: Is it correct? Actually How much it draws?

    I'm glad to hear that the power train is working !

    That current sounds high - typically the control card for the EVM on my desk draws about 100mA.

    It's a stupid thing to ask but have you checked that your measurement is correct?
    What switching frequency are you running the power train at?
    Are there any other loads on the +12V - drivers etc.

    I think you are TI employee and Genius also. But I am not. I have very little bit knowledge on Power electronics. “Nobody is born intelligent”
    I am not blaming ‘IC (UCC28950)’ or ‘your design’ or ‘TI’. I have asked just my doubt only.
    Clearly I mentioned in my mail in first line that
    “I used same schematic which is shown in the datasheet of UCC28950”. Its meaning that it includes drivers also.
    Clearly I mentioned in my mail in fourth line that
    “It is drawing 480mA current on +12VDC in output no-load condition “. Its meaning that I am talking about overall DC-DC converter.

    Anyway Mr.Colin, Once again thanks for reply and also for your previous suggestions/ replies. I will check my schematic and design once again.
    I am very sorry, if I harassed you with my doubts. And I request you to please don’t use ‘stupid’ kind of words.

    I'm sorry - I think you misunderstood my use of the word 'stupid'. It's a friendly expression we would use here in Ireland to say 'I'm sorry to have to ask this, but can we check some basic items first?'. In the past I have been badly misled by some current meters - especially those on power supplies which can have significant offsets when reading low values - eg 400mA on a 40A full scale output, and I didn't want us to fall into that trap. Please don't interpret my use of the word as a judgement of your abilities - as you say we are all learning here and it was TI that decided that I get called 'Genius' not me.

    So - please don't hesitate to post your questions here and I don't feel harassed at all.

    And 480mA still sounds a little high - I'd suggest that you try to see where the current is going - are you using gate driver transformers?.
