BQ76930: Cell availability

Part Number: BQ76930

Hi,

I am working on a battery monitoring system with 6 cells. Currently developing the I2C interface in a micro-controller and wanted to test the read/write communication with the BQ76930 registers. Do all the cells need to be connected for the I2C to function? Cells are not available right now.

so can I test the communication by supplying voltage to the BAT pin and REGSRC pin? What all other methods can I use, if possible?

Thanks,

Mesfin

  • Hi Mesfin,

The I2C can function without the cells connected, but for your evaluation you can use resistors to divide the voltage evenly across the cells. The EVM has this built in and it is described in Section 6 of the EVM User Guide: www.ti.com/.../slvu925b.pdf

Yes, the BAT pin and the REGSRC pin will need voltage supplied. The Quick Start section of the EVM User Guide gives some steps to get started, but there are a few things (like the REGSRC voltage) that are taken care of on the EVM.

    Best regards,
    Matt
