UCC27714: Open Loop Test

Part Number: UCC27714
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC27712

Hi,

I am designing a phase-shifted Full bridge DC-DC converter. I am using UCC27714  as mosfet driver. But before connecting to the circuit I want to test the functionality of UCC27714 IC. For that I have made a circuit as shown in fig.  Low side ouput pulses I have probed and it is coming properly. How could I check whether High side Output is coming or not??  Is it possible to connect HS pin to GND and probe HO to observe high side pulses?

  • Hi Sonu,

Thanks for reaching out to us, my name is Mamadou Diallo with the High Power Drivers group.

You may probe HS to GND to capture the switch node waveforms, and probe HO-HS using a differential probe to observe the high-side output.

The link copied below is the UCC27712's user's guide (same family of devices ) and discusses in details how to evaluate this family device.

The second link below is the UCC27714's actual user's guide where the device is used in a 600-W Phase-Shifted Full-Bridge (PHSB) Converter.

  • Hi Sonu,

Consider using a boot diode with higher voltage ratings as 1N4148 on your schematics is only rated for 100V.

This boot diode should be carefully chosen such that it is capable of handling the peak transient currents during start-up; and

such that its voltage rating is within the system DC-link voltage range.

In our EVMs, we used diodes with ratings (>=600V) .

    Thanks.

  • Hi Sir,

Thanks a lot for your valuable suggestion. It resolved my issue.
