BQ25713: Can BQ25713 compelte the charing cycle without I2C routine?

Part Number: BQ25713

I have seen in the datasheet that ' During power up, the charger sets converter to buck, boost or buck-boost configuration based on input source
and battery conditions. The charger automatically transits among buck, boost and buck-boost configuration
without host control.'

(1) Does this mean that BQ25713 can automatically complete the charging cycle if a proper input DC source exists without communicating with the host by I2C?

(2) Does the BQ25713 need always communicating with the host  by I2C?  If the I2C is lost , can the charging cyle be completed automatically?

  • David,

Below is my response about your question.

Q1: The answer is Yes. But it is mean that converter portion, not charge path. If your input source is correct, then BQ25713 DC/DC converter will automatically power on to convert input power to system side. And system voltage value is based on your battery cell setting. As for charger, you should program charging current via I2C interface, otherwise BQ25713 won't charge battery.

Q2: It is depended on watchdog timer setting, if you disable watchdog timer then BQ25713 will continue to operate based on previous I2C setting. Even your I2C is lost.

    Thank you and Regards
