LM46001-Q1: Inquiries about PGOOD and HICCUP

Part Number: LM46001-Q1

Hi team.

I ask about the Hiccup mode when PGOOD is floating.

I checked about hiccup mode at datasheet(7.3.12 Overcurrent and Short Circuit Protection)as follow.

'Hiccup is only activated when the power-good flag is low.'

If the level of the PGOOD is similar to GND when does not have pull-up resistor, does Hiccup Mode run even if OV / UV does not occur?

  • Hi,

Yes, the hiccup mode will get engaged whenever there is an over current condition at the output.

If the current of the LS switch is

higher than the LS current limit for 32 consecutive cycles and the power-good flag is low, hiccup current

protection mode is activated. In hiccup mode, the regulator is shut down and kept off for 5.5 ms typically before

the LM46001-Q1 tries to start again.

What it means by the power-good flag is the signal internal to the IC. The PGOOD pin is just an indicator, therefore even if the PGOOD pin does not have a pull up resistor, the hiccup still will be activated.

    Thanks
