BQ24040: charging status indicator

Part Number: BQ24040

Hi,

I would like to know how the charging status indicator ~CHG FET/LED in BQ24040 works.

In datasheet of BQ24040 in chapter "8.4.1 ~CHG and ~PG LED Pull-up Source" I can see that ~CHG FET/LED during TEMP FAULT state is "ON for 1st Charge".

What does it means?

Best regards,

Michael

  • Hello
The CHG will indicate that the battery is charging. But is optimized for ease of use by the end user.
1.) CHG will only be active during the first charge. This is after power is applied to the charger.
2.) During recharge CHG is not active. This would be the case where unit completes charge, remains connected battery voltage drops and charge starts again.
3.) If during the first charge (CHG active) battery temp gets too high current to battery will stop but status of CHG will not change. Charge current to battery will resume when temp is reduced.
