BQ34Z100-G1: Communication Interface Question

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO,

Hi,

My customer has the following question:

I have an application that will use bq34Z100G1, which has two communication interface. The host device will use HDQ to communicate with bq34z100G1. The MCU built-in with the battery is used to convert the LED display per customer requirement. To avoid bus collision on HDG, I am thinking to use I2C bus to read SOC and current for LED display. Do you know if this is feasible?

Thanks,

Chuchen

  • Hi Chuchen,

Unfortunately, this will not work. The bq34z100-G1 interface is I2C by default. The data flash can only be modified while in I2C mode. There is a command that reconfigures the device to HDQ in bqStudio, but it is a permanent change and only should be done as the last step of configuring the device. Once the device is changed to HDQ, it cannot go back to I2C mode.

You can see the section "Converting to HDQ Mode" in the TRM (Technical Reference Manual) for more details.

    Best regards,
    Matt
