TPS766xx and Cout ESR

The TPS766xx as well the TPS76050 or TPS75233 data sheet includes some rules concerning output capacitance and ESR.

Would you please suggest me some Capacitance  manufacturer and suitable P/N  used as reference in our EVM?

Thanks

Regards

Mauro

  • Given that the ESR of tantalum and aluminum capacitors varies quite a bit, the best solution might be to use a ceramic capacitor in series with a small resistor.  If not, then you might try the following tantalums:

    AVX's TCJ series

    Kemet's T520 series

    NIchicon's F3xx series

    or aluminum/Polymer:

    Panasonics EEF series

    Nichicon's F180 or RFS series

    Kemet's A700 series

    Sanyo's OSCON.

I selected these by going to a distributor's website and searching for capacitors in the capacitance and voltage range of interest but with ESR's between 50 and 250 mohm.

  • Thanks for answer (Mr. Vignali insesrted the request for us).

By the way, as far as we can see, you refer to the ESR @ 100 KHz typical value.

Is this the approach for our analysis ?

We thought to keep in account the ESR frequency graph (i.e. 1KHz - 1 MHz from capacitor datasheet) assuring that the value never lower the limit.

Rletaed to ceramic capacitor, did you experience with component that meet the ESR requirement without external resistors ?

    Thanks

  • You want to the ESR to meet the datasheet requirement in the 10kHz - 100kHz range.

No ceramic capacitor of which I am aware with meet the ESR requirements of those ICs you are using.
