LM3402: Solution for adjust current source

Part Number: LM3402
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS92640

Hi Team,

My customer is looking for solution for adjustable current source, below is the requirements:

Channel: 2

Adjustable Current: 0A~2A

Maximum load: 25ohm

Ripple: Vrms<=10mV, Vpp<=100mV

Response time <=100ms

Accuracy: +/-2%

Would you pls help check if we have solution to meet above requirements? Thanks.

Best regards,

Sulyn

  • Hello Sulyn,

    Is this a true resistor load?

    What is the input voltage range? What is the output voltage range? Is there a particular topology they are interested in? Is the maximum load, 25 ohms at 2A for a 50V output?

    Vrms output ripple on a current regulator is dependent on the load (capacitance, resistance, dynamic impedance, etc). What is their load? Is there and output capacitor? At 50V the ripple voltage will be much higher then 10mV without an output capacitor.

    Are there transient requirements?

    +/- 2% over what range?  This is a fairly tight regulation specification especially over multiple operating ranges and temperature.

  • Hi Nederbragt,
    Thanks for your support! For yoru questions:
    1. Yes, the output voltage must support up to 50V;
    2. Customer can consider to add output cap if needed;
    3. For the 2% accuracy, it's according to full scale;

    If we have some solution, I can recommend to customer.

    Best regards,
    Sulyn
  • Hello Sulyn,

    I would like to find out what the input voltage range is and the output voltage range. The maximum output voltage is 50V. This is necessary to figure out what topology is needed and the voltage rating of the IC to be used. The TPS92640/641 is a good choice for a buck converter if that is the topology that is desired.

    What is the load, a resistor?

    If this is a resistor load an output capacitor will be needed.

  • Hello Sulyn,

    I have not heard back from you so I believe you may have solved the issue.
    The thread will close now but will reopen if you reply.
