BQ76925: connection order for bq76925

Part Number: BQ76925

Hi,

my customer is currently doing a design with the bq76925 and they are currently faced with suspicious technical issue.

Dependent on the order of connecting the cell sensing pins we can note high current flow into cell sensing inputs (e.g. Cell 2, 3,4,5).

This happens especially if GND and/or BAT is not connected. This can be a typical situation at the battery pack production.

Do you have a recommendation in which order the cells shall be connected?

regards,

Stani

  • Hi Stani,
The bq76925 data sheet does not address cell connection.
The EVM user guide indicates connection order is important. The EVM uses differential caps. It recommends connecting BATT-, then BATT+, then the cell connector.
GND is the reference for the IC, it is recommended to be connected first. When other inputs are connected first currents may flow through the part in unintended paths to charge the battery filter capacitors.
