BQ76920EVM: 100nF in series

Part Number: BQ76920EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76920

Hello,

why are there two 100nF MLCCs in series (C17 and C18) parallel to the bat+ and bat- output? Same question for C11 and C12!

Part of Figure 26 in EVM-PDF for the BQ76920

Best regards

  • Hi Philipp,
The series capacitors are for ESD protection. 2 are used in series so that if one were to short the other would still be open avoiding a single point fault. In some systems they are installed at 90 degrees so they experience different stress during board flex.
Note that E1 is on the EVM but should not be used in a product since it is a single point fault which could bypass the FETs.
