TL431A: TL431A Vref Aging

Part Number: TL431A

Do you have any long term Vref aging data for this regulator?

  • Hi Harry,

We do not have long term (Vz) drift data for the TL431A.

  • OK. Thank You. Just one more question: Is the Vref generated by a 'bandgap' reference or some other technology? The reason I am asking about the long term aging is I am working on an End of Life analysis for a circuit where we are using the TL431 as the primary voltage regulator.

  • Hi Harry,

That is a valid question. The bandgap voltage is generated by a bandgap core. This can be seen in the simplified schematic in figure 24. The bottom left circuit is the BJT bandgap voltage that is then fed into the comparator.
I have not heard of any issues with long term drift and TL431. When we do our qualification we run the TL431 (100 pieces) through accelerated life testing and then after we test that the device still meets specifications. There was no failures. A typical acceleration test of 500 hours at 150C. But we do not test each unit's value to see the deviation.
