BQ24133: choose charge power chip

Part Number: BQ24133
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100-G1, BQ24172

I want to design a portable device, now choose 7.4V 2 cells 6000mAh lithium battery, the adapter input voltage is12V 3A, Can you recommend a suitable charging management chip? If I want to choose a chip, which parameters are necessarily  i need to know?

in addition, I recently looked at the BQ24133 chip which seems to suit my needs,  I want to confirm that in the case of 2cell, is its output voltage range is between 6V and 8.4v?

Besides ,can you also introduce me a Li-Ion battery fuel gauge like bq34z100-G1   to me ?

  • Hi,

Depending on the voltage of the fully charged battery, you can use BQ24133 if the battery is 4.2V/cell when fully charged. You can use BQ24172 for adjustable fully charged battery voltage. Please post the gauge question in a separate thread and the gauge expert will help you.
  • I want to know is the VOUT voltage equal to the voltage of the lithium battery?
what does adjustable fully charged battery ?does it mean there is many different fully charged battery ,ex 4.2V /CELL ,2.1V/CELL ,right?

besides,in design  PMP4397 , there is  A  NTC net label  ,what does  it  mean?

  • Hi,

The VOUT voltage is the charge voltage for the battery pack. The standard 1S lithium battery charge voltage is 4.2V, 2S is 8.4V, etc. If the battery pack charge voltage for your specific battery pack is 8.7V (i.e. nonstandard), you may use BQ24172 instead of BQ24133.
In PMP4397, NTC is for thermistor connection.

    Thanks!
