BQ76930: Do i need to do calibration for current?

Part Number: BQ76930
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350-R1

Dear

According to the be76930 data sheet (section 7.3.1.1.3 16-Bit CC), it write the following statements

The following equation shows how to convert the 16-bit CC reading into an analog voltage if no board-
level calibration is performed:
CC Reading (in µV) = [16-bit 2’s Complement Value] × (8.44 µV/LSB)

What does  "no boarding level calibration is performed" mean?

Do i need to do calibration for current? i don't find any cue about doing current adc calibration in data sheet

Thanks

  • Hi Frank,

The bq76930 is calibrated at the factory so all devices will have consistent measurements within the datasheet specification. However, measurements can also be affected by board parasitics. The bq78350-R1 companion gauge or a microcontroller can do calibration to correct for any error due to the board. This is described in detail in Section 12.2 of the BQ78350-R1 TRM (Technical Reference Manual): www.ti.com/.../sluubd3d.pdf

    Best regards,
    Matt
