BQ25703A: BQ25703A, charging battery below 0°C

Part Number: BQ25703A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25703

Hello,

For temperature below 0°C, some chemitry allow battery charging at reduced current.

On page 11/93 of the BQ25703 datasheet (REVISED MAY 2018),

about the 'CHARGE CURRENT REGULATION IN FAST CHARGE',

it is noted :

"
Charge current regulation
accuracy 10-mΩ current
sensing resistor, VBAT above
0x0D/0C() setting (0°C to
85°C
"

Shall we understand that BQ25707A can't charge below 0°C?

Or, it can. But the charge current regulation accuracy is not specified below 0°C?

regards,

AM

  • Hi Arnaud,

The BQ257xx is capable of charging below 0C, assuming other related factors don't prohibit this -- i.e. battery impedance becoming too high, etc.  That said, you definitely need to verify that the battery you are using can be charged at such a temperature.

The note on the datasheet indicates that the absolute max/min tolerances specified in this section are over the range 0 to 85 C as opposed to -40 to 125 C.

    Regards,

    Steve
