BQ25703A: How to increase the charging current in BQ25703A?

Part Number: BQ25703A

When the battery voltage is lower than the minimum system voltage which is set in MinSystemVoltage Register, the charging current at this time is very small.

How to increase the charging current?

When the battery voltage is greater than the minimum system voltage, the system will be charged by the big current which is set in IIN_HOST Register.

My register configuration and schematic are as follows:

Many thanks

  • Hello Kelly,

When VBATT is below VSYS_min, it is assumed that the battery is heavily depleted and so the device goes into precharge mode.

For 2-4 cell operation, precharge mode is clamped to 384 mA if the BATFET is operating in LDO mode (default.) This 384 mA current clamp is a fixed value that cannot be modified.

It is possible to take the BATFET out of LDO mode, which will fully close the BATFET switch (see bit 2 in charge option 0 register, EN_LDO) - but in this case current is completely unregulated and must be regulated at the battery, so this mode must be used with care.

Reducing VSYS_min (which is also the precharge threshold for this device) will also take the device out of precharge mode and into fast charge mode, if the system can tolerate a lower VSYS_Min.

    Regards,
    Steve
  • Hi Kelly,

Since I have not seen any follow-on questions to the above, I am assuming that this answered your question and I am going to close the thread.

  • Hi Steve,

I am very sorry to reply now. I just got out of other emergency matters.
New quesion i will create the new thread.
    Many thanks.
