TPS23756: is there standard design for diode bridge for PD input? is it shown in IEEE802.3 protocol?

Part Number: TPS23756
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2373-4EVM-758,

Hi,

below is tps23756 EVM circuit, is this standard design for diode bridge for PD input? is it shown in IEEE802.3 protocol?

customer want to check with us, in IEEE802.3 protocol, is there chapter to specify this circuit and it there paragraph to ask customer to must follow this circuit?

thanks.

  • Hello Max,

The IEEE802.3at standard says that each pair shall accept either polarity. The standard does not explicitly state the type of application circuit that  must be used to accomplish this. In TPS23756EVM, we used a diode bridge for each pair. For TPS2373-4EVM-758, we used a FET bridge (more efficient & costly).

I can point out the specific section in the standard, tomorrow morning.

  • Hi Max,

This is from section 33.3.1, PD PI, of the IEEE 802.3at standard:
