LM1084: We have a design which would not regulate from 12V down to 5V.

Part Number: LM1084
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM317,

This part is supposed to be compatible with "tried and true" LM317.  After reviewing datasheet, swapping resistor values, and even re-ordering another batch we couldn't get the circuit to regulate.

We swapped in an LM317 and just like that the circuit works.  We suspect either bad LM1084's or bogus parts in the Digikey supply chain.

We have industrial X-Ray on site, but we need a reference image.  Can you support the LM1084 with errata sheets, or supply us a reference xray image?  Do you want some of the parts we had problems with?

Please advise, Sherman

  • Hi Sherman,

From your description I agree that something sounds fishy since both devices are Pin-to-Pin compatible and have the same reference voltage.

Since you purchased the devices through Digikey, you will need to work with Digikey to initiate any return or failure analysis process.  Here are the links that describe these procedures:

Below is a link to our Anti-counterfeit statement for your information; however, Digikey is one of our authorized distributors:

Thank you for the rapid response.  DigiKey is an outstanding supplier and we have never had a complaint.

Responding to your guidance, I will have one of our co-op's open up a dialog with DigiKey,
