BQ2060A: BQ2060A - 0x1717 sometimes recieved over SMBUS

In a locked thread, it was stated that the firmware in the BQ2060 will return a 0x1717 if it is in an invalid state, possibly from reading the SMBUS too fast. Are there any other conditions that would cause an invalid state that would result in random 0x1717 being returned during a read?

No, only if you are scanning the SMBUS too fast.

In this case, it is hard to slow down further. It is happening with a clock frequency of 12.5 kHz and a time between readings of about 5.5ms (it is read every 10 ms).

Sorry, Rick. I see one instance of 0x1717. What are the registers that you are trying to read? 12.5kHz is definitely supported and is in spec. If you are reading dataRAM registers, there' no need to read them more than once a second.
