BQ24133: VQFN to SMD

Hello,

I have just decided to use these components(BQ24133) in my design. But I have realized that they are so small and impossible to work on it and connect things to its legs. I have searched for a suitable QFN to SMD adapter. Since it has not symmetrical legs on over it, There are no possible adapter which fits it. The evaluation kit is nearly half of the minimum wage in Turkey. As a student I can not pay that amount. Also, in production period, evaluation kit will not be useful for me. How can I solve this issue? Is there any adapter you have, for BQ24133 which makes it SMD or THT?

Any help will be appreciated.

Yusuf,

BQ24133 is a switching charger. Switching converter is sensitive to the layout. A socket adapter will introduce undesired parasitic parameters which could cause abnormal or no operation of the charging circuit. The BQ24133 should be soldered down on PCB directly. The PCB should follow the layout guideline described on the datasheet Section 12.

Thanks for really good and satisfying explanation. The last question comes. Is there any way you recommend to put these tiny chips to PCB board correctly?

Yusuf,

You want to put flux and good amount of solder paste. Drop the IC on the PCB with good alignment (no exact alignment required). Use hot air gun to heat the component. The reflow will have the IC soldered and aligned to the PCB footprint. This process requires some practice and you will get there.
