BQ76930: Bq76930 SCD delay setting

Part Number: BQ76930

Hi

In the bq76930 datasheet, it shows the belowing sentences at page38.

If the SCD delay setting is not setting 400us, for example 70us, what will happen for SCD?

Does the SCD protection early occur at 166mV when the SCD threshold setting is 200mV?

"Short circuit in discharge delay setting. A 400-μs setting is recommended only in systems using
maximum cell measurement input resistance, Rc, of 1 kΩ (which corresponds to minimum internal cell
balancing current or external cell balancing configuration)."

  • Hi Morris,

The SCD delay setting should not impact the SCD threshold voltage. If you are seeing the delay trigger at a lower voltage, it could mean that you are not measuring the voltage correctly at your sense resistor (this measurement is difficult to make accurately). Make sure you are using a kelvin connection when making this voltage measurement and place the probes directly on the input filter resistor pads.

Also, check to make sure the lower four Reserved bits of the PROTECT3 register are set to zero. If the Reserved bits are programmed to a different value, it may impact the SCD voltage threshold.

    Best regards,
    Matt
