UCC28950: Design Guide for full-bridge SR for UCC28950

Part Number: UCC28950
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC27211, UCC27714

Hi team,

Do we have the app note/design guide/paper to discuss how to design the full-bridge synchronous rectification for FBPS topology with UCC28950? My customer would like to how it operates and compares between centre-tapped SR & full-bridge SR.

Thank a lot.

Best Regards,

Wei-Hao

  • Hi Wei-Hao,

Thank you for your question, I have asked my colleague to help here.

  • Hi Weihao,

I also can not find the application note about the Full bridge sr for UCC 28950.

Below is my understanding of this issue:

    1. UCC28950 is designed for central tapped SR solution. if you want to use it for full bridge SR, you need to use a isolated driver, for example UCC27211 or UCC27714, depends on the output voltage level, both of the two drivers use level shift technology. You can also use a digital isolate driver, for example, UCC21251.
    2. In order to compare the two different kinds of SR solution. My experiment is that central tapped is more easy to design the driver circuit, need higher voltage level mos, and has less efficiency at Transformer. Some high efficiency solution may consider use Full bridge SR, the reason are:1)lower voltage level and has lower Rdson on SR mos.2) You can full use of the Transformer at all time. this will reduce the proximity effect on the secondary windings.
