TPS2373: The ADPT function

Part Number: TPS2373
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2378

Hi,

Here are some question about TPS2373-4

1. What is this circuit of TPS2373EVM for? To maintain MPS current? Or just disable MOSFET driver for currnet consumption.

2. according to the picture above, Q18 sink current when external insert, but VDD is reference to VSS, and ADPT is reference to RTN.

So does sink current from VDD to RTN get TPS2373 or any components damaged due to the different GND reference?

3. To use external adapter, TPS2373-4 use APD pin and pull VDD to RTN, compare with TPS2378 that used APD only, which way is batter? Why?

4. To use external adapter, if don't use actice bridge, then the circuit(ADPT) can be remove, and use only APD function?

Could you please help to answer item by item? then it's more easier to feedback to end-customer, thank you so much.

Thank you.

  • Hi C.T.,

I am looking into the question. Let me get back to you.

  • Hi CT,

    1. The purpose of the circuit is to disable the MOSFETs to reduce additional current consumption during Auto MPS.

    2. Q18 is referenced to RTN because power is being applied to the RTN-referenced adapter.Referencing it to VSS would result in leakage current to VSS (in addition to the Auto MPS current).

    3. Can you provide further clarification on this question? The APD pin on TPS2373-4 & TPS2378 have similar functionality.

    4. That is correct. the ADPT circuit is not necessary if there is no active bridge.
